Rhine Valley, Germany

Our favorite castle in the Rhine Valley is Rheinfels - built in 1245. As you can see, the castle is in ruins It was so pretty. I love traveling during non-tourist season because it was also empty! We found a spiral staircase that went up into a big dark room. We used our camera flash to go through the room and down a long dark hallway to come out on a different side of the castle. It was musty, a little creepy, and FUN.

Wittenburg, Germany

We spent a couple days in Wittenburg - where Martin Luther ministered. We saw the 95 Theses plaque at Castle Church and also saw St. Mary's Church - where Luther preached. We also went to the old monestary where Luther and Catherine lived. It was fun to visit the room where their "Table Talk" was held. We got caught out in a big thunderstorm while we were in St. Mary's Church. Abby didn't know what to think about getting soaked. We thought it was hilarious!

Switzerland was Beautiful

Top of Europe

In Switzerland, we took a train up Jungfrauhoch - the highest peak in Europe. It was 11,333 ft. We went outside when we got to the top - we were so high, the views looked like we were in an airplane. They also had an "ice palace." We went though a long ice tunnel and came out in an ice room with statues of eskimos, penguins, etc.

Biking in Switzerland

We stayed a few days in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. One of the favorite things on our whole vacation was the bike trip we did there. We rented bicycles, took them up the gondola, and rode them between two small towns. Then we took the train back to our original town and rode the gondola back down. Abby loved riding along on our backs. The views were fantastic the whole way. God's creation is so amazing. We were sore for a couple days after this ride. :-)
